Short Dance day blogging from Sheffield
Another amazing day has started! Finally the competition!
Practice was really good, our starting number was number three just right after our team mates Marco & Charlene who picked up number two.
The ice was a bit busy ‘cause of the five couples on the ice but everybody survived as always! We always take good care of each other. This year is really difficult due to the new Circular no touching step sequence because everybody is doing nor clockwise either anti-clockwise so we all must be really caring.

Yesterday was a pretty easy day for us because we had no competition.
We had two times practice. The practice in the morning was the first practice in the practice rink which is also nice, the ice is good and some people came to watch. We were practicing Short Dance and we rather enjoyed it.

Hello everybody,
We are the ice dance couple Tanja Kolbe & Stefano Caruso and last time we were reporting from the international Ice Skating Competition in Finland. Hello again from Croatia!
We'd like to say just a few words about our competition in Zagreb.
I think we did a good Short Dance and we’re also feeling much more solid and confident with the rumba than before. We earned 53.10 points and we were in the 5th place.
With our Free Dance we earned 70,76 points, it was not a bad skating but unfortinately I did an important mistake, I didn't catch my leg in the twizzle so we lost points, finisching in the 6th place.

Hello from Berlin!

Il Duomo di Berlino
Hello to everybody!!!
So, here we are with a short blog about our journey in Berlin!
Right after Dortmund we came by car with Tanja's parents to Berlin.
We are here until the 16th of November because we've planned to train with Mr. Martin Skotnicky.
In Berlin is already winter right now. It's really cold but at least the sun is shining in the sky and it makes us feel happier!
We are working basically on our weakness, we already changed our midline step sequence in the free dance and we are also improving and cleaning our choreography of both the programs.
Doing the compulsory dance with Mr. Skotnicky is really nice, you can tell he has a huge experience of training and he makes us feeling really good!
Training does not is always at the same place/rink, we are actually skating in 4 ice rinks. Three are in one place (in Sport forum) and the other one is a single ice rink.
All of them are very close to Tanja's apartment so we get there quickly from home! It’s also nice to stay here because we have a lot of friends in the city and we do not have the opportunity to see them so often. In conclusione everything is going well and we're happy with each other.
We still have a bit of training time before our next competition, which should be Zagreb at the beginning of December.
Thank you everybody for the support!
New updates will come shortly!

Hi everybody,
Today we are very happy because it was the first time since we are skating together that we won an international competition.
It's Sunday and actually at Sundays you normally just want to lie in bed and sleep and relax, but we had to pull ourselves together and skate a good competition.
The practice at 9:30 was in the practice rink, which is really cold, but practice was really good and we gave a lot power. It was fun and we were convinced and happy to show a wonderful program choreographed and worked by our amazing coach Barbara Fusar-Poli.
After the practice we relaxed a bit and made ourselves ready for the competition.
Marco and Charlene, our training mates, skate before us, and we were still very sorry for them, for the place they had gotten in the short dance. They skated the free dance very well, and our coach, Barbara, was really sad that they did so well and still would not get the place they should (because of their placement in the SD).
Anyway, then we skated and we were feeling ourselves full of energy. We skated for the public, which was a wonderful supporter for everybody in this competition, for our parents and friends, and of course for our coach, Barbara.
Everything was really good, just in one lift Stefano fell because we were not going into it together. While we were still skating, he was sorry and disappointed and said something like, "I'm so stupid." After that we tried even more to give expression and more energy. We finished the rest of the program very good, and I'm anyways proud of my partner Stefano and us. It was a really good competition and in the end -- big surprise -- we could celebrate also with our training mates because they got in the end the second place. We are really, really happy for them!
We want to thank a lot our great coach Barbara, who has a lot of nerves with us and is always strong for us, also the German Federation that gave us the opportunity to represent this country and our families!
Stefano would like to add something:
I want to share our first victory with an Italian guy named Marco Simoncelli. He was a great champion in the motorcycle world. He was a great person and unfortunately he died while he was racing and doing what he loved the most. From this person everybody should understand how wonderful life is.
Thanks everybody for following our blog.
Maybe until the next competition:)
Bye from Tanja and Stefano

What a day so far!!! Wake up was very early today, we were on the ice practicing our Short Dance already at 7.40 am!!! It’s always nice to see all the skaters already with make-up, nice costumes and a rising smile on the face so early in the morning!
We skated well and right after we went back to do breakfast and sleep… Fast shower, make up and then driving to the ice rink with Tanja’s parents…
Was really funny to warm up running next to the ice rink, the weather is so nice nowadays…seems that winter doesn’t want to come!! Soccer game was also beginning and there were a lot of family going to the stadium right next to the ice rink!
We dressed up and we were waiting for the first group to finish…our time was almost coming!!
The Spanish team skated last of the first group and then warm up group number 2 were supposed to be on the ice but unfortunately the Referee said that they had a technical problem with the technical panel so we had 20 minutes delayed….so everybody came back to the dressing room to stay focused at the competition…
During that time they fixed the problem and everything went good.
We skated pretty solid, we still have to work on our Rhumba, we know that we can be better but apart from that we had a lot of fun between us on the ice!
While Tanja went to watch all the other competitors, I was speaking with my mom…! ;)
We heard the results and was really unexpected!! But really happy with it!
It was strange especially for me skating here in Dortmund, now that since one year I represent this country. I felt like home…the public was so warm, they were clapping for us…it was something special I have to admit…that’s why perhaps I was also a little bit nervous…
We are just a little sad for our team mates, Charlene and Marco…! But we know from how they train hard that they'll get what they deserve….!!!!
A special thank also to our couch, Barbara Fusar Poli…without her we wouldn’t be here…
Now it’s time to go to sleep..! Tomorrow Free Dance!!!
Gute nacht!!! Have a great time everybody!

Stefano and Tanja at the Jahrmarkt in Dortmund
04-11-2011
Hi everybody,
so now we are in Dortmund like we wrote it yesterday already. We arrived yesterday and today we had just one practice of Free Dance.
It was nice weather in Dortmund and so I went for a walk with my parents. I don´t see them often because they live in Berlin and we train mostly in Milan, in Italy.
In the near Park “Westfalen Park” it was really nice. The park was colored by the autumn and there were still some wonderful roses shining and smelling in the garden.
After we went to the ice rink for our practice which was going pretty well. We were five couples in the group so it was a little bit full. Also our training mates, Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri were in the same group.
After the practice, we had the draw and Stefano took the number 6, which is pretty good so we are in the second group.
In the evening we were going to see a little bit the center of Dortmund and a little market and eating diner there all together.
For tomorrow we want to be very present also if the practice begins already at 7:40 for us.
See you tomorrow and greatings to everybody

From Dortmund some news - 1° Day

With our coach, Barbara Fusar Poli.
03.11.2011
Another week, another competition…! Just last week we were in Nice with 22° and such a wonderful weather…competition was going really smooth and now we are in Dortmund for the NRW Trophy.
The trip was quite long, plane from Milano to Dusseldorf, then Bus and finally we arrived at the rink.
We had just the time for eating something, saying hello to all our friends here that we had to get ready for practice! Just 50 minutes but really intense! We went through both our programs with our couch standing at the barrier.
After that accreditation….You can realize that we are in Germany because here they do things like perfect! Everything is set already and everybody knows what to do and what to answer! I like it! Tanja’s parents arrived around 4.30 pm from Berlin and then we went finally to our Hotel.
Our Hotel is 3 km far from the ice rink but it’s really cute! We had time for rest and dinner all together…
Now it’s time to sleep, tomorrow we have Free Dance practice at 2.30 pm.
About Skate Canada we wanted to say that we really enjoyed watching both SD and FD and we were really happy about Kaytlin and Andrew, they rock this year!
Best wishes also to all our friends competing this week in China and in Graz!!!

NRW Trophy Dortmund 2011 - We're coming

With our coach, Barbara Fusar Poli.
Our next competition is going to be just in a couple of days. "NRW TROPHY DORTMUND", in Germany.
We’ll try blogging from Dortmund and in the mean time you can follow us on this webside.
Nizza here we were - International Cup of Nice 2011

With our coach, Barbara Fusar Poli.
So we’re here again just to say few words about our competition we had in France.
For us it was a very short competition, just both of the segments in two days and mostly we competed during night time…
We danced our Short Dance around 10.00 pm on Friday … and we were really happy about our performance, we skated with power, joy and we had a lot of fun which is very important for us.
The day after we skated our Free Dance at 11.35 pm … and despite night time we actually enjoyed it! I am also proud to have such a nice partner to support our team in any time and condition.
Maybe just a little bit upset about we couldn't make the podium for about a difference of one point... but we’ll make it next time. At the end, 4th place isn't as bad at all.
We’d like to thank all for the support, our coaches, friends and families and once again we’ll go for it next time because our motto is: “One team, one goal and never give up”.

Finnlandia Trophy 2011 - Last day FD
Here we are again!
Now I am at the airport waiting for the plane to bring us back home.
Today was a tough day for Tanja. We woke up very early, like 6.15 am and after a quick breakfast we went to the ice rink for the FD practice. Her scarf on the shin war swollen and really hearting even more than yesterday and the day before. During the practice we did quickly a check-up of all the elements and we decided to go out.
When we came back to the hotel I spoke with her because actually I didn’t want her to compete if she has so much pain, I would have never forced her because I do understand what she’s being through in those days. After a long talk she decided that she wanted to try and if, during the FD she would have too much pain, we would have been stopped and withdraw from the competition.
The most important thing is the HEALTH, then comes everything else.
A lot of people around her were kind of pushing/forcing to skate the FD; she is a strong girl that loves skating, but I mean, if you will ask her: “do you feel like skating?” she would never reply no!
So during the warm up I talked to her again and she said she wanted to try…So that’s what we did!
Before competing the doctor gave her an injection for the pain. Then they called our names on the ice, we looked at each other and we started.
The program was going really smooth, she skated for herself, for me, for the public and at the end we felt that the Arena really understood us… Between each other we felt the magic, I got emotional during the last piece watching her suffering face.
I am proud again of my partner. Not a lot of people would have done what she did today.
I will end this blog from Finland with this reflection…
The saddest thing is that I have learned in my life that in the figure skating world some people are not grateful and they can’t understand and recognize some efforts. Some of them they just don’t care and is sad because what all the skaters are doing is not just a sport, is an expression of feelings….
Tanja is a wonderful person and a talented skater, I actually don’t care about anything else that is not us and our skating. I wish to her a good recovery and the wish to come back soon on the ice to skate again together.
Stefano

Finnlandia Trophy 2011 - Third day
After what happened to my partner yesterday this morning we woke up without knowing if we will be able to compete or not.
Short after breakfast she decided that she would like to try to skate at the practice. We skated really well, just a short practice, we did all the elements and then we went out the ice.
Her wound was really painfull after the practice but she put ice on it and cool it down.
We talked to each other and she told me she wanted to try to compete. We decided to call up Hendrik Schamberger on the phone (he was Tanja’s the former couch and also our couch during the last season), and he is also a doctor. He suggested her to take two pain killer just before the competition. And that's what she did.
We went inside the ice rink for the competition and I told her, “Tanja, just have fun!” and that’s what we exactly had. FUN!! We were just a bit upset because we did a little mistake in the second pattern of the rhumba.
I want to say: I’am deeply proud of my partner! I think not a lot of girl would have done what she did today, skating after a really bad injury and with pain and with seven stiches. She skated great, with great interpretation and deep feelings.
We actually don’t care about the result, we are just simple happy and we will keep going through our way, confident, results will come!
From today on, Tanja will be my new Hero!
Speak to you tomorrow!!!

Finnlandia Trophy 2011 - Second Day
Today we had practice in the afternoon, so the day started well, we slept long and had a nice breakfast.
The whole day the weather was bad, it was raining, so we went with our coach Barbara Fusar Poli and our Italian friends and training mates, Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri to the nearest shopping center.
In the hospital with our coach, Barbara Fusar Poli and Stefano
Before our practice time we had the opportunity to watch other groups including Tessa Virtue/ Scott Moir, which was pretty nice because we were in the last group with an Austrian, Ukrainian and Russian couple.
Our training has started well but when we had the music on during our short dance and we were doing twizzles, a little bit maybe too near to each other, at some point while Stefano was grapping his leg he cut mine... My feeling was like a kind of “scratch” so I finished the piece and looked at what happened. Unfortunately I realized the cut was very deep and long and it was bleeding a lot so we had to go straight to the nearest hospital. In the hospital they sewn the wound on my leg with seven stitches... and I could go back to the hotel straight away. I hope it will not hurt a lot tomorrow and we can continue the competition.

So, let the show go on!
Notizia tanto attesa: finalmente in nazionale!
Tanja e Stefano a Pinè Ice Galà 2011 - 13 Agosto 2011, ore 21.00
Cast internazionale d’eccezione:
* Stephan Lambiel, 2 volte Campione del Mondo, Campione europeo, 7 volte Campione nazionale;
* Barbara Fusar Poli e Maurizio Margaglio, Campioni del Mondo, Campioni europei, medaglia di bronzo ai Giochi Olimpici di Salt Lake City nel 2002, 9 volte Campioni d’Italia;
* Samuel Contesti, medaglia d’argento ai Campionati europei, 4 volte Campione d’Italia;
* Debbie Park, leggenda dell’Aerial Tissus;
* Silvia Fontana, 5 volte Campionessa d’Italia, 2 partecipazioni ai Giochi Olimpici, 2 volte vincitrice del programma televisivo "Notti sul ghiaccio";
* Valentina Marchei, 3 volte Campionessa nazionale, 5a classificata ai Campionati europei;
